Although the trek is feasible during the winter, the most suitable course for the Gangtey Trek is between March-May and September-November. This trekking is a brief and comparatively easygoing trek with numerous attractive villages and monasteries en route. This gentle trek tours the settlements of Gogona and Khotokha, crossing into grasslands and meadows, then groves of juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons in full blossom in April.

Day 1Arrival at Paro and travelling towards the capital

Bhutan has two airlines available which are Drukair and Tashi Airline respectively. While travelling towards Bhutan, the beautiful and scenic beauty of the Himalayas is an experience to be shared.
Moreover, while landing to Paro, you get to experience one of the most challenging landings in the world. On arrival at Paro airport, you will be welcomed by our respective representatives in the best possible of ways. After the completion of formalities, you will be driven to Thimphu.

Day 2Thimphu/Gangtey

Thimphu, as capital has many attractive sites to offer. However, a visit to the Buddha point and National Memorial Chorten is a must.
Buddha Point: It is located atop a hill overlooking the Thimphu valley. The attraction of the site is due to the colossal Buddha erected, which is glided in gold. You will get to experience the scenic beauty of Thimphu valley, as well as, see the gigantic Buddha statue overlooking the capital.
National Memorial Chorten: This landmark will let you experience the spiritual and religious practices evident in the country. The landmark serves as a monument for peace and as a memorial to the Late Third King of the country. The landmark also provides you with the opportunity to interact with local elderly and the opportunity to take pictures.
Visit centenary farmers market: The market is where you will get to see the local vendors selling their vegetables, rice, fruits and meats. The place will be packed, and the goal of the visit is to let the traveller experience a different atmosphere.
Lunch at Thimphu
After lunch advance towards Gangtey, en-route halt at Dochula pass (3,050m). Your journey to Gangtay will circumvent Punakha and Wangdiphordang. Drive over Lawa la pass (3150m), and you advance to the most beautiful valley with black-necked cranes relocating to this region from Tibet.

Day 3Gangtey/Gogona

Your trek begins today from Gangtey. Follow the ancient trail used by locals in ancient times. The path weaves steadily upwards through pastures and plains, climbing to Tsele-la pass (3,400m). You will be checking for lunch at the crossing with a magnificent view and prayer flags. The path then declines slowly into groves of junipers, bamboo, magnolias, rhododendrons and temperate bushes. A quick climb, you be will reach Gogona settlement.
Overnight camp.

Day 4Gogona/ Khotokha

The path starts within the settlement and weaves up lightly over Gogona village with opportunities of seeing farming liveliness. A gradual ascent brings you into a thicket of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendron, cypress and junipers. A lengthy and progressive climb into towering vegetation takes you up to Shobju-la pass (3,400m). The pass offers an excellent view of Himalaya and sight of a few prayer flags raised. The path from the pass leads down to a full a valley of Khotokha, where the people of Sha come in during summer to feed their animals. Your campsite for today is located in an open ground near blue pine forest with birds like a yellow billed-blue magpie and tits.

Day 5Khotokha/Chazam/Wangduephodrang

A short mounting from the campsite receives you to a pass identified as Tashi la pass (2900mtrs). The pass remits a stunning view throughout with prayer flags raised for travellers. Of the pass, the path slopes steeply into ever-changing nature till eventually entering the bridge at Wangduephodrang. Conceivably now is a magnificent occasion for the bird watcher. This range of the trek extends several varieties for birds as you stroll onward the farm road. The trek ends near a bridge.

Day 6Wangduephodrang/ Thimphu

After breakfast, visit and explore the Wangduephodrang and Punakha valley.
Visit Rinchengang village. A clustered village. Aforementioned is the only village in Western Bhutan surviving since the 17th century. The old traditional house and primary facilities accessible in this village will deliver you hundreds of years back. This village extends friendly people and kids.
Later, visit Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century fortification which is constructed elegantly between Pho Chu (male river) and Mo Chu (female river). This Dzong is also a winter habitation of the central monastic body. This place will propose you an opportunity to take pictures of monks and also to intermingle with monks.
Lunch at Punakha.
After lunch proceed to Paro driving over Dochula pass (3100m) and bypass the capital city, Thimphu (4-5hrs)
Dinner and overnight in hotel at Paro.

Day 7Tiger's Nest (Taktsang)

Visit Taktsang
An early start for the hike (Summer 7 am and Winter 8 am)
After an early breakfast, drive towards the north of Paro Valley. Here you will have to hike towards your destination, which might take around 4-5 hours depending on the pace. The journey to the destination will let you experience the pristine environment and the scenic beauty of Paro valley. Taktsang Monastery became a holy site due to its history where Guru Rinpoche arrived at the landmark on the back of a tigress from Tibet.
After the visit to Taktsang, the next tour is a Traditional farmhouse where the guest will get the opportunity to see the interior of a traditional Bhutanese house and get to interact with the local family. The goal of this visit is to let the traveller experience life of Bhutanese farmers and see the interiors of a traditional Bhutanese house.

Day 8Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, drive to the airport for your departure. Please do check-in 3 hours before your flight.


How and where do I apply for Visa?

Your Visa to Bhutan can only be applied and processed by an authorized agent. The Visa is approved only when you have met the requirements set up by the Tourism Council of Bhutan when a travel package is picked. You can’t apply for Visa yourself, and Bhutan embassy does not have travel visa services.

How long does it take to get my Bhutan Visa?

Visa usually takes around a week or two before your arrival in the country.

Am I allowed to smoke in Bhutan?

Bhutan is the first country in the world to ban the sales of tobacco products. It is advised not to smoke in open public places to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

What does my tariff pay for?

USD 65 per night (frequently termed as royalty) goes to a development fund for free health care, free education and road-building in Bhutan. The rest of the charge proceeds towards accommodation, meals, and services such as tour guides, transport, drivers and entrance fees to places of attractions

Am I allowed to bring cigarettes & alcohol into Bhutan?

Yes, all visitors are allowed to bring a litre of alcoholic spirit and up to 200 sticks of cigarettes OR 30 pieces of cigars. However, please be informed that you will have to pay duty taxes at the custom at Paro International Airport or any entry points in Bhutan.

My Bhutan travel visa is issued on my old passport, which was close to expiring. Will there be any problems when I reach immigration in Bhutan?

If your Visa to Bhutan is in your old passport, you will have to bring both your old and the new passport to be verified that you are approved to enter the country. Be noted that it is required that your passport has six months before its expiry.

Drukair departs early in the morning during my last day, and I won't be visiting any attractions, will I be exempted from the tariff on the last day?

Yes. Drukair generally departs Paro by 10 am every day. Travellers departing by Drukair will be exempted from the daily tariff on the last day when leaving Bhutan.
